The Denver Broncos declined to exercise outside linebacker Shane Ray's $9.23 million fifth-year option for 2019 on Thursday Ryan Kalil Jersey , a week after selecting North Carolina State pass rusher Bradley Chubb in the NFL draft.
Ray, the team's top pick in 2015, promised a big bounce-back season after the Broncos selected Chubb with the fifth overall draft pick, something he'll need if he's going to cash in as an unrestricted free agent next March.
Ray's fifth-year option would have been worth more than his four-year, $9,118,894 rookie contract he signed after the Broncos selected him with the 23rd overall pick in 2015 after his outstanding final season at Missouri in which he won SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Ray, who turns 25 in two weeks, has started just 15 games in three NFL seasons, collecting 84 tackles, 13 sacks and two fumble recoveries.
That production is similar to that of Shaq Barrett Orlando Pace Jersey , an undrafted free agent from Colorado State who has 108 tackles, 11 sacks and seven forced fumbles over the past three seasons in Denver, where he started out as a practice squad player in 2014.
Barrett will make $2.914 million this season after the Broncos placed a second-round tender on him this offseason. By contrast, Ray's 2018 salary is $1.678 million.
Playing behind DeMarcus Ware and Von Miller, Ray had a solid rookie season, one that culminated in a pair of tackles and a forced fumble in the Broncos' win over Carolina in Super Bowl 50.
In 2016, he posted eight sacks and 48 tackles and became the first player since Jacksonville's John Henderson in 2002 to collect three sacks in his first career start.
He looked primed for a breakout season last year following Ware's retirement, but he broke his left wrist in July, which required a series of surgeries and forced him to miss half the season. Unable to hit the weights, he dropped 17 pounds to 225 and essentially played with just one arm before electing for another surgery with two weeks left in the season. He finished with just one sack and 15 tackles.
Ray took to social media during the draft, promising to rebound from his injury-marred season. After a series of exchanges with his Twitter followers over the weekend Damarious Randall Jersey , he posted, "No more social media. I'm going dark" with a peace sign emoji.
Russell Westbrook and Paul George each scored 24 points, and the Oklahoma City Thunder used a timely fourth-quarter run to pull away for a 108-102 win over the Houston Rockets on Saturday night.
The Thunder were down one with about seven minutes left before scoring the next 11 points.
Oklahoma City is vying with several teams for the final playoff spots in the loaded Western Conference. The victory gives the Thunder a 2-1 win in the season series and snaps the Rockets’ 20-game home winning streak.
James Harden had 26 points for Houston, and Chris Paul added 17.
NUGGETS 134, CLIPPERS 115
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Will Barton scored 31 points, Nikola Jokic had 23 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists, and Denver earned its fifth consecutive victory.
Denver (45-35) pulled into a tie with Minnesota for eighth in the Western Conference with two games to play. The Nuggets visit the Timberwolves for their season finale on Wednesday night.

PELICANS 126, WARRIORS 120
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Anthony Davis had 34 points Ryan Grant Jersey , 12 rebounds and four blocked shots, and New Orleans snapped a 10-game losing streak to Golden State.
The Pelicans beat the Warriors for the first time since April 7, 2015, in New Orleans, and at Oracle Arena for the first time since April 24, 2012.
Golden State star Kevin Durant scored 19 of his 41 points in the third quarter. Durant also finished with 10 rebounds and five assists.
Quinn Cook, who has been an admirable fill-in for the injured Stephen Curry after his promotion from the G League, added 21 points in the Warriors’ final regular-season home game.
Nikola Mirotic had 28 points for the Pelicans, and Rajon Rondo dished out 17 assists.
SPURS 116, TRAIL BLAZERS 105
SAN ANTONIO (AP) – LaMarcus Aldridge scored 28 points to help San Antonio stop a two-game losing streak.
The Spurs (46-34) are tied with Oklahoma City and New Orleans for fifth in the Western Conference, a half-game back of idle Utah.
San Antonio can clinch a playoff spot with a victory over visiting Sacramento on Monday.
Portland (48-32) dropped its third consecutive game and missed out on an opportunity to clinch home-court advantage in the first round. Damian Lillard had 33 points for the Trail Blazers Joe Schobert Jersey , and Evan Turner finished with 18.
BUCKS 115, KNICKS 102
NEW YORK (AP) – Eric Bledsoe had 22 points and 10 assists, and Milwaukee moved into a tie for sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
Khris Middleton also scored 22 points for the Bucks, who joined Miami with a 43-37 record. The Heat were blown out by the Knicks at Madison Square Garden a night earlier but the Bucks avoided the same fate despite playing without All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo because of a sore right ankle.
Jabari Parker made his second start of the season in Antetokounmpo’s place and finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Jarrett Jack scored 18 points and Kyle O’Quinn had 15 points, 16 rebounds and five assists for the Knicks, who beat Miami 122-98 on Friday but fell short in their hopes of beating another playoff-bound team.
NETS 124, BULLS 96
CHICAGO (AP) – Quincy Acy scored 21 points, and Brooklyn set a franchise record by making 24 3-pointers.
The Nets finished one 3-pointer shy of the NBA record set last season by Cleveland. Acy made six 3s, and Allen Crabbe hit 5 of 13 from deep on his way to 20 points.
Brooklyn got its fourth road win in its last five games.
Sean Kilpatrick led Chicago with 20 points, and Bobby Portis had 18 points and eight rebounds.
