At least one player thinks President Donald Trump’s offer to listen to NFL players for advice on pardons wasn’t a sincere one.

Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins told TMZ that he didn’t buy it.

“I think Trump is more closed-minded and he thinks the reason that we’re kneeling is because of the flag [url=http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/aaron-jones-jersey]http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/aaron-jones-jersey[/url] ,” Hopkins said, via the Houston Chronicle. “When that’s like not at all the reason we’re kneeling.”

Hopkins was among the Texans players who took a knee during the anthem before the Oct. 29 game, after owner Bob McNair’s “inmates running the prison” line from a meeting with other NFL owners. Hopkins said he still expects some players to take a knee next year.

“I kneeled last year and one of my best friends is a Purple Heart veteran and my uncle is a Purple Heart veteran and they understand that it’s not about the flag,” Hopkins said. “But, when a general person like that makes it look like, ‘All right [url=http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/pernell-mcphee-jersey]Pernell McPhee Jersey[/url] , they’re doing this because of the flag.’ Then of course his followers are going to think the same. But, that’s not the case at all, you know?”

Of course, the reality is that Trump will continue to use the NFL as a punching bag, after NFL owners tried to appease him with a new anthem policy. Players who are on the field are now required to stand, though they have the option to remain in the locker room.

During a recent radio interview in which [url=http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/michael-gallup-jersey]http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/michael-gallup-jersey[/url] , among other things, Papa John’s founder John Schnatter claimed he was pushed to use a racial slur during a conference call aimed at helping him boost his image, Schnatter dismissed the possibility of litigation regarding the turmoil engulfing his professional life, explaining that he hates lawyers.

He apparently likes them now.

Via CNBC.com, Schnatter has filed a lawsuit aimed at inspecting the company’s books. It’s surely a precursor to litigation aimed at getting him reinstalled as the chairman of the board.

Schnatter resigned his position after news of his slur came to light, capping a slide that began last November [url=http://www.washingtonredskinsteamonline.com/ryan-kerrigan-jersey]Ryan Kerrigan Jersey[/url] , when Schnatter erroneously blamed the NFL for a reduction in the company’s earnings. He quickly expressed regret for walking away from the company he founded. Schnatter still owns 29 percent of the company’s shares.

In the lawsuit, Schnatter claims he was falsely accused of using a racial slur, even though he previously has admitted that he did.

“We are saddened and disappointed that John Schnatter has filed a needless and wasteful lawsuit in an attempt to distract from his own words and actions,” Papa John’s spokesman Peter Collins told CNBC. “We will not let his numerous misstatements in the complaint and elsewhere distract us from the important work we are doing to move the business forward for our 120,000 corporate and franchise team members, and our franchisees [url=http://www.greenbaypackersteamonline.com/tramon-williams-jersey]Tramon Williams Jersey[/url] , customers and stakeholders.”

Schnatter’s misguided attack on the NFL became the first domino in a process that has brought him to the point of filing a lawsuit against his own company. Regardless of whether the lawsuit succeeds, chances are none of this would have happened if he hadn’t decided to try to blame the NFL (possibly at the behest of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones) for problems the league didn’t cause.
